What Is a VAWA Psychological Evaluation?

A VAWA evaluation documents the emotional and psychological impact of domestic violence, emotional abuse, coercive control, or trauma experienced within a relationship with a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

This evaluation helps support a VAWA self-petition by detailing the harm suffered and how the abuse has affected functioning, safety, and well-being.

What the Evaluation Documents

Where applicable, our VAWA assessments may include:

  • Emotional abuse, intimidation, gaslighting, and coercion

  • Isolation, threats, or financial control

  • Physical or sexual violence

  • Long-term psychological consequences

  • PTSD, depression, anxiety, or fear

  • Impact on self-esteem, functioning, and safety

  • Effects on children, where applicable

  • Evidence of trauma consistent with reported abuse

Our clinicians are experienced in working with survivors from diverse cultural backgrounds, including individuals who may have been reluctant to report abuse due to stigma or fear.

We prioritize creating a validating, compassionate space. You will never be pressured to share information before you are ready.
